O'Neil she was in her high-school times during the auditions, auditioned for Canadian Idol's 3rd season within the early months of 2005. She made it to the 100th round due to the fact that judges were awed with her performances. O'Neil was given high praise by the judges. However, she experienced substantial losses during the Top 10 weeks as well as the Top 9 of the Finals as she fell into the bottom 3 and bottom 2 and bottom 2 respectively. The judges were awed by her performance and suggested viewers choose those who sing well, such as Melissa. O'Neil's performance was so consistently good, that he did not fall into the third place. O'Neil, Rex Goudie and Werner delivered two spectacular performances in September of 2005. Werner reportedly said that the headlines would state that O'Neil beat Goudie and became the 3rd Canadian Idol. She was also the first female and the youngest winner in time of the show. O'Neil received a phone call shortly after her win from Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, congratulating on her win of Canadian Idol.
